Last night in the 5:00pm hour of the Producers on 570 KVI, Travis Box and Luther Haigs were discussing Osama Bin Laden. The question was, Is it important that we still get him, and Is it important that we know about it. Some great calls. I really wanted to point out two storys that related to the topic.
First is an interview with Osama from Esquire Magazine February 1999
Greetings, America. My Name is Osama bin Laden.
By John Miller
The second is a piece by Peggy Noonan. March 2003, Kind a what if look at what could be the case.
Oh Happy Day
They washed the sand away, and there he was.
By Peggy Noonan
Here is a quote from an article by Rick Joyner from December 2001 Facing our Fears
"Our government must use the sword that has been given to it, and must use it until there is a decisive victory. The war we are now in will not be over with the capture or death of Osama Ben Ladin, or Saddam Hussein, or any number of other leaders. If this war is not won so decisively that terrorism is no longer considered a viable way to accomplish political goals, future attacks will kill millions, not just thousands."
And another quote by Rick Joyner from January 2002 The Best That Can Happen
"It would also be better for us if Osama Bin Laden is not captured or killed in the near future. I say this because the United States has already become too comfortable because of the seemingly easy military successes. Because of this, the danger for more catastrophes is growing. Bin Laden is but the head of one serpent, and there are many, many more serpents. The pursuit of bin Laden will also lead our government to a far greater understanding of the enemy and the scope of the war that we are in. The longer bin Laden remains at large, the better off we will ultimately be. His trail will lead us to much understanding, and we must stay hot on his trail."

John Carlson on 570 KVI announced today in the 5pm hour of his show that Rush Limbaugh would be leaving KVI effective October 9th. Here is the story via the Seattle PI .
Limbaugh's syndicator, Premiere Networks, informed the station yesterday that it plans to "sever the relationship we have had for 12 years," said KVI program director Paul Duckworth.
The last Limbaugh appearance on KVI is set for Oct. 9. His new home will be Entercom-owned KTTH-AM (770); the program will air at 9 a.m. weekdays.
Fisher-owned KVI made an offer to keep Limbaugh on the station, he added. "We asked them very specifically if other parties were offering more money or more marketing; they said no," Duckworth said. "We did everything we could to keep him on KVI."
Now strictly speaking as a listener, I can only assume that there is more going on than is on the surface. And in a way, I think that KVI has brought this on themselves. I remember what life was like before KTTH. Seattle was a town with one conservative talk radio station. There was only one place for Rush to be. But in August of 2002 KVI made a decision to replace the highly rated Michael Medved show with Sean Hannity. A totally understandable move on their part since Sean was up and comming. But what was difficult on us as the listener is that they played hardball with Michael Medved and refused to release him from the non-compete clause in his contract. We as listeners were forced to what until January 2003 to listen to the Michael Medved Show. That then gave Entercom the time to develop KTTH with Micheal into the station that it is now. David Boze moved over to help out and Michael Savage also moved into the time slot that competed directly with John Carlson. It was fun to hear the change in quality of both stations as the rallyed to compete with one another. For years there was virtually no competion and now they were going to be challenged.
So it seems that playing hardball has now turned to bite KVI in the butt. As the most highly rated talk show, it will be very hard on them to lose the gravy train that is Rush Limbaugh. But if they go ahead and put Bill O'Reilly into the 9am-11am slot they will gain me as a listener during that slot. I wish them the best as they step into this next phase as a station. You guys are tough, you can do it. Whatever doesnt kill you will make you stronger. Please do not go away. Make the best of the next 3 months.

What is this?
Welcome to the all-new Seattle Talk Radio Blog. I am starting this blog so that it can be used by the public as a resource and a way to keep up with what it is talked about on the radio. Brian Lane started a website for Kirby Wilbur back in January of 2003 so that in his words,
“My goal is to create a site where fans can congregate to discuss the show and to give Kirby a place where he can easily post information that he talks about on the show.”
A fine goal. It is so frustrating to hear a topic on the radio only to forget what that guys name was, or what the website was that was referenced. Brian has taken the first step but his website relies on only himself and people from KVI to update it. As you can see by looking at the site this is not accomplished on a regular basis. Another example of this being done halfway is the Michael Medved site. It only has 3 links that remain visible with no way to search by week. And the links are updated rather sporadically. The fact is we are all busy people. I listen to and enjoy talk radio when I drive. I listen to 570 KVI and Talk 770 KTTH. I enjoy most of their hosts. I think that I will go ahead and create individual blogs for the national hosts that I listen to. If I miss them and you feel that they need their own email me and I will get it started.
Why the blog?
Back in May of 2002, John Carlson asked his audience if he should start a Blog. He reads Andrew Sullivan daily. I had heard of blogs from Peggy Noonan who also reads Andrew. After looking into it I started a blog to see how easy it is. It was very easy. And it gives the writer so much power to just write and not worry about “maintaining” a site. I started with Blogger because it is free and they will host it for free on Blogspot with minimal text ads. You can pay $12 a year to get rid of advertising, which I might do, but if it bugs you, anyone can sponsor a blog and have it removed.
Well I went ahead and asked John to start a blog since he already owned johncarlson.org and it would be so easy to maintain. I even offered to help him get started. He thanked me for the suggestion but I never heard anything more about it. I wondered if it had anything to do with KVI policy. But once Kirby started a website I doubted that was the case.
The power of this blog will be in the ability for anyone to post once they agree to the terms of this site and request that they are added. I would also encourage anyone to also start your own personal blog because it can get addicting and there is way more freedom to say anything that is on you mind on your own blog.
Team blogs can be awesome. One look at The Command Post will tell you that they have a good thing going on there. Another great team blog is The Volokh Conspiracy.
So if you don’t see something linked that you heard about, just add a post yourself. Not a member? Than sign up by emailing me and agreeing to the terms.
This blog is open to all talk radio in the Seattle area except The Buzz. Why? Because I am gearing this blog towards current events and politics.
So sign up and post away!
